Golfballs
On the first day of class the philosophy professor stood behind a table that had on it a large, empty mayonnaise jar, a box of golf balls, a box of pebbles, and a box of sand. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up the very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

So the professor then picked up the box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between golf balls.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up the box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.

He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things--your family, your children, your health, your friends, your favorite passions--things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

"The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car.

The sand is everything else--the small stuff.

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house, and fix the disposal.

"Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the beer represented.

The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of beers."

My husband, is one of my golfballs. Always has been. Always will be. I hope he knows that.

I forgot to mention that last night a friend was over visiting and we watched a small deer walk down our street!

Today's happiness: I also forgot to mention the suspicious mole I had removed from my leg had no cancer cells, which is great news. We've had concerns in the past.

The long lonely days continue. I miss my husband very much. Impossible to forget about someone who has been in your heart for so long. I have enough hope and faith for the two of us, about us and our marriage reconciling.

DD has been working long hours. Putting in the time before she goes on her mini vacation with friend & family. Hope she has a really good time. Isn't that what summers and teenagerhood is about? Fun times, shopping, laughter, sun, pools.

Tomorrow the "chicks" are coming over to make Christmas cards. Should be an eventful laughter filled day. They are good people. I started a layout about what's going on in my life right now, as well as I made two different baby cards. Somewhat organized for the cardmaking tomorrow.

Sleep continues to be tough. Have violent disturbing dreams. I try to go to bed thinking about really positive things. Man, the mind is a powerful thing.

I have four weeks vacation in August and worry how I will fill the time...

"Why is it that people get married?
Because we need a witness to our lives.
There’s a billion people on the planet.
What does any one life really mean?
But in a marriage, you’re promising to care about everything…
The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things,
All of it… all the time, every day.
You’re saying “Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it.
Your life will not go unwitnessed - because I will be your witness.”
Wife in the movie, "Shall We Dance?" 2004

As I've been poking around Tripod to see what was going on today, I came up the fact that I am running out of space. So I have just now gone and deleted some of the older pics. Means I have room for newer ones.

Like this:

Which is in my daughter's umbilicus as we speak.

Not sure what is up with Tripod. Some people are complaining they are getting "Trojans" from ads on my blog. I've emailed Tripod/Lycos and did everything they told me to do. If my popups are blocked, I don't seem to have a problem. Otherwise, Norton's picks it up and deletes it. I've run Norton so many times, and it comes up clean. I wonder how reassured I should be with that.

My days are very long and lonely. I miss my husband so very much. I still have hope in my heart for our marriage.

DD and I went out of town for the day yesterday. She ended up with a bellybutton piercing and a new digital camera. I got myself a self help book. She did very well with the piercing; way stronger and tougher than me. I would never have been able to do that. But she really really wanted it.

Started writing in an old fashioned journal tonight. Hope it's therapeutic to write freely. I've read in a few articles how it's good to journal, so I'm going to put all my thoughts down on paper.

Plan on doing some cardmaking and scrapbooking tomorrow, as long as the weather doesn't get too hot. My scrapbook room can be a cooker in the summer. Also should work on dd's new bedroom; I was hoping she would help scrape the fiberwall off. *sigh* She's either working long hours at her job or at friends. Life of a teenager.
